NC AIDS Update

The latest issue of the Alliance of AIDS Services Carolina newsletter is now available here and includes some fairly amazing information about AIDS in North Carolina. Among other things, you can check out clinical trial information about studies offered at Duke University and UNC-Chapel Hill Hospitals. The most shocking statistic I found in this issue details some of the demographics of AIDS/HIV infection in the state. Among those who are infected, 95% live below poverty level. There is a breakdown of infections by sex and race as well.

We need to continue applying pressure on our state government to provide comprehensive care for our indigent and infected populations. We have one of the worst records in the US for providing medical coverage and one of the fastest growing infection rates. This spells trouble for many in our community and we must not let them continue to go unnoticed by our representatives.
